How Can Westlake Lanes Be Saved?

June 15, 2023

Westlake lanes is an old and established bowling company located in downtown Raleigh. The business has been facing critical problems that need immediate resolution. These crucial issues include lack of space for customers to have fun, poor food quality, overpriced games, ageing machineries and rising cost of employee wages, health insurance and other operational costs. These challenges have been faced by Shelby Givens, the general manager of the business. She is a recent business graduate who has been hired by the board to solve these issues and bring the business back on profit.

The company’s performance is mainly dependent on the economic climate. Higher GDP and economic growth contribute to increased consumer power, which in turn leads to increased demand for the company’s products. Moreover, lower interest rates also lead to an increase in customer loyalty. The company also has a strong human resource management department, which is regulated by modern policies and practices.

Givens has been working very hard over the past 9 months to bring the company back on track. However, the financial analysis shows that unless profitability is achieved by mid-2010, the company will be sold at a loss. Givens is considering the options of either selling the company or upgrading it to an upscale bowling lounge. She is recommending the latter option to the board, as it will be more financially beneficial and ensure the continuation of the westlake legacy. She is also recommending that daytime hours should be changed to family time, as well as adding new facilities and space for families to throw parties or project kid-friendly videos.
