How to Draw the Chicago Skyline

June 15, 2023

Known as the birthplace of skyscrapers, Chicago boasts an impressive cityscape. The Windy City’s dazzling architecture is a sight to behold, and it makes for a great photo opportunity, especially during nighttime.

To create the perfect city skyline drawing, you’ll want to focus on the buildings that make the area unique. This is a simple way to ensure your drawings will stand out from the rest. You can do this by including outlines of the city’s most famous buildings. You can also add a few other features like water and clouds to help give your skyline a more realistic feel.

The Tribune Building is a famous neo-gothic structure on Michigan Avenue that’s a staple of the city skyline. It was the home of the Chicago Tribune newspaper and WGN Radio, and it stands out thanks to its spire and distinctive windows. It’s especially beautiful at night when the building is illuminated with a lighted crown that changes color to mark holidays and local celebrations.

Another striking feature of the Chicago skyline is 77 West Wacker Drive. This post-modern tower has a very unusual roof, with one side looking like it’s on top of a Mayan temple. It’s a popular spot for photos, and the building offers classroom space for the Art Institute of Chicago.

Lastly, there’s the Aon Center on North Michigan Avenue. This skyscraper is recognizable by the fact that it has two massive antennas, similar to those on the Willis Tower. It’s a very unique structure and is another reason that the Chicago skyline is a must-see for any visitor.
