There are times when children and fur babies get pee on their car seats. If you’re not careful, this can lead to a foul smell that can ruin your ride and make your kids or pets uncomfortable. The good news is that you can get the pee smell out of your leather car seat quickly and with a few common household items.
Start by blotting the area with paper towels. The sooner you can soak up as much of the urine as possible, the less it will soak into the upholstery and into seams and stitching. If the soiled area is dry, sprinkle baking soda over it and leave it overnight to absorb odors and deodorize the seat. Vacuum up the baking soda thoroughly.
If the soiled area is wet, apply upholstery cleaner directly onto it following the directions on the label. If you’re cleaning leather, be sure to use a leather conditioner afterward.
Hydrogen peroxide is excellent at disinfecting and removing stains at the same time. It’s often used by professional detailers and can be found in most pharmacies. However, it’s important to test a small amount on an inconspicuous spot before applying it to the rest of the seat.
If the stain is very deep or permanent, you can try using an enzyme cleaner that breaks down urine molecules and eliminates odors. However, always be sure to follow the product instructions and test it on a small section of the seat first before applying it to the entire surface.
