How to Loosen Straps on Evenflo Car Seats

December 12, 2023

Car seat straps often need to be removed and reinstalled, either for cleaning or as baby grows. Many seats have multiple harness loops for adjusting the length of the straps, and it is important to follow the instructions in the manual when doing this. Often the manual will specify which loop to use based on the child’s weight, height, or which harness slot they are using. If each side of the harness is on a different loop, it can cause uneven straps that can lead to a child being pulled forward too far, which could be fatal in a crash.

It is also important to check that the shoulder straps are at or below baby’s shoulder level, and that the chest clip is positioned correctly on their torso. If the chest clip is too high, it can rub against a child’s neck or dig into their torso. This can lead to chafing and entrapment in a crash. The chest clip should be positioned at armpit level.

Another common problem is that one of the shoulder straps is looser than the other, which can be dangerous for babies in the event of a crash. This can cause the child to slide down and “submarine” out of the seat, which could lead to injuries such as head trauma or strangulation. This can be easily fixed by pulling on the harness to loosen the shoulder strap that is too tight. If the shoulder strap is not too loose, try rethreading it through the buckle or chest clip and making sure it lies flat.
