How to Make Your Car Untowable

January 2, 2024

There are a number of things you can do to make your car untowable. If you park in an area known for tow truck activity, consider putting your name and cell phone number on the back of your windshield. This will allow a passerby to contact you if they see that your vehicle is being towed away.

Another option is to use a tow dolly. A tow dolly is a two-wheel trailer that secures your car’s front wheels off the ground. You can purchase a tow dolly at many automotive retailers or online. Just make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Finally, if you have a front-wheel drive vehicle, try using an axle lock. This will prevent your front-wheel drive vehicle from being towed without a driver present to steer it. Axle locks are available at most automotive stores.

It is important to note that no matter how you choose to make your car untowable, a skilled tow truck operator will still be able to take it away. For this reason, you should always be vigilant when parking your vehicle.

Always check your owner’s manual to find where the tow eye is located on your vehicle. Often, this is found on the front bumper, although there are exceptions to this rule. If you are unsure where the tow eye is, consult a professional for assistance. Also, be sure to jack up your car on the proper lifting points. Fenders are not a good jacking point, as this could damage your vehicle.
