How to Play Xbox in Car

March 22, 2024

Back in the day, having a console in the car was next level videogame royalty. Nowadays, heading out on a road trip without a car-console setup is like forgetting to pack underwear.

While Apple’s CarPlay walled garden makes it impossible to run anything not sanctioned by the Cupertino company, a Reddit user has figured out a way around this. By jailbreaking their iPhone and installing a few apps, they managed to get Xbox games running on a CarPlay-powered head unit in the car.

To set this up, you’ll need a few things: an unused Xbox One S, a car charger (we recommend this $35 BESTEK 400W Power Inverter), a pair of headphones (to let you game without disturbing your passengers), and at least two large bags of chips. You’ll also need a battery jump box, like this GAEMS Sentinel, to power the console and TV while you play.

First, place the Xbox upside down on a flat, sturdy surface. Remove the rubber feet from the bottom of the case, as well as the manufacturer warning stickers.
