How to Turn AC on in Car

February 8, 2024

When the car gets hot outside and you are sweltering inside, it is natural to turn on your air conditioner. But if you do not use it correctly, it could take you forever to cool the cabin. There are some basic things that you need to do before turning the AC on to ensure it works efficiently and effectively.

The first step is to roll down the windows for the initial few minutes of driving. This will allow the hot air to escape, and the AC mechanism will start cooling the cabin much faster. It will also prevent dust and other particles from entering the cabin and being sucked into the evaporator.

Many drivers make the mistake of turning on the AC to the maximum temperature and fan speed immediately. But it is a good idea to start with the lowest mode and gradually increase the cooling speed as the temperature inside the cabin decreases. This way, the air conditioner will work at its peak efficiency and will not have to run continuously.

It is advisable to use the recirculation button when you are driving in heavy traffic or in a stop-and-go traffic situation. This will help the AC to recirculate the cool air that is already in the cabin and not pull fresh air from outside, which takes up more energy and makes the car’s engine work harder. This is especially true when the ambient air temperature is very high.
