Reality TV star Abby Lee Miller appears to have closed the final chapter on her dance studio, selling her property in Penn Hills for $300,000. The former home of “Dance Moms,” the Lifetime network series that launched Miller into fame, was sold this month to Tim Krise of Punxsutawney, owner of school bus provider Krise Transportation. He says his company always guarantees drivers five hours of work a day when schools are in session and bumps wages for new hires to more than $20 per hour, aiming to recruit local workers. He also plans to purchase or rent a lot for bus storage in the district, as it is doing in 13 other districts.
At a meeting June 6, some residents, including representatives of Klein and New Rhoads, complained that the district had not made public pricing details of the contract with Krise, which replaced a longstanding agreement between Daniel Boone and two local companies. A pricing schedule was later released, showing that under the first option, the district would pay $540,000 less with Krise than Klein and New Rhoads; under the second, it would save $1.4 million.
In February, a Lackawanna County judge faulted the district’s board and administration for their handling of the first contract with Krise, saying they did not follow proper bidding procedures. The judge ruled that the district must go back to the drawing board and solicit bids for next year’s transportation services.
