My Car Rocks Back and Forth When Parked

March 5, 2024

i got a new used car and it seems like every time i park on an incline or slanted driveway when i put it in park it will rock forward about what feels to be 5inches. is this normal or what could be the issue?

If your car shakes when braking, then it is most likely a problem with the brake or suspension system. You should bring it to a mechanic immediately for a professional diagnosis and repair. It could be a number of things from warped brake rotors to unbalanced tires or even misalignment issues. Your brake pads may need to be replaced, or the shock absorber dampers might be worn out.

I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla and it is doing the same thing. I am concerned because it has been doing this for a few years now and it is making me nervous because i think that something might be wrong with the transmission or engine. I am not sure what to do or where to start, can you please give me some advice?

The first thing to check is if your parking brake is on. If it isn’t, it will move slightly when you turn off the engine or release the foot brake. This is because of the weight of the car and is a completely normal thing to do.
