Performs advanced engineering and architectural work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, traffic operations and maintenance or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Works independently on assignments; however, unusual issues are referred to supervisor.

Assists area engineers with construction contract administration and maintenance matters, prepares engineering reports, researches problems, analyzes and evaluates test results, and gives presentations to other TxDOT personnel and outside entities. Travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering evaluations and inspections.

Assists staff in conducting environmental assessments for construction projects to ensure compliance with federal regulations and Department policies. Conducts field reviews of roadways to assist in the resolution of construction problems and prepares a variety of technical documentation including but not limited to, design calculations, plans, layouts, and typical sections. Assists in the development of new methods, procedures and technologies to improve performance. Conducts research and analysis to determine if an alternative means of accomplishing a task is more cost effective.
