things to do in bolingbrook

Bolingbrook is a vibrant and thriving village that offers plenty of things to do and see. Whether you’re new to the area or have lived here for years, there’s something here for everyone!

Among the best things to do in Bolingbrook is to visit The Promenade. This open air shopping mall is home to a number of great stores and restaurants.

The Promenade

Bolingbrook’s Promenade is one of the southwestern suburbs’ premier shopping destinations. Anchored by Macy’s and Bass Pro Shops, the open-air lifestyle center boasts a wide selection of stores, restaurants and entertainment options.

The mall is located in a fast-growing southwestern Chicago suburb, near Interstate Highway 55 at Boughton Road. Its new owners, Chicago-based M&J Wikow and Northbrook-based Bixby Bridge Capital, said they saw a lot of opportunity for the center in this part of town, where retail is a key business driver.

Sales tax revenues from the Promenade and other shopping hubs help support Bolingbrook’s services, Mayor Roger Claar said. But the village still faces hurdles endemic to fast-growing communities.

Wilderness Falls

Wilderness Falls is one of Chicago’s most exciting places for family fun. Play golf on top of a 40 foot waterfall, tip toe through Big Foot’s cave, navigate racing rapids and most importantly, have fun!

After golf, take a swing in the batting cages for baseball and softball. The cages are fun for all ages!

Located near the city of Bolingbrook, this is a great place to bring your family. The cost of living in the area is much lower than the national average.

Isle a la Cache

A 101-acre riparian island in the Des Plaines River, Isle a la Cache is a forest preserve that’s also home to a natural history museum. Immerse yourself in the region’s rich cultural and natural history at the museum, where you can see how the two worlds of French voyageurs and Potawatomi intertwined in 18th-century Illinois Country.

Explore the forest preserve on a self-guided tour or take advantage of Isle a la Cache’s extensive trail system and campground. You can also scout for local wildlife, including bald eagles, migratory songbirds and mink and turtles.

Pelican Harbor Water Park

Bolingbrook’s year-round place for family fun, Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park has something for everyone. You can celebrate your birthday, have a group outing, or learn to swim right here!

Guests say that the water is clean, and the lifeguards are great. They also say that the park is very well maintained and accommodates a variety of aquatic activities.

The outdoor area has eight waterslides, three of which are indoors, a 12 1/2 foot-deep diving well, and a lazy river. The indoor area offers a lap pool, zero-depth entry pool, two water slides, a tot slide, tumble buckets and a 10-person hot tub.

Rocket Ice Arena

If you’re into ice skating, you’ll be pleased to know that Bolingbrook is home to the Rocket Ice Arena. The attraction is a hive of activity with two full-sized ice rinks and features a number of exciting attractions. It’s also a great place to see and be seen, with some of the best views in town.

Despite a recent tussle with the glorification of Bolingbrook, there’s still plenty to do and see in this Chicago area suburb. The best way to get around is to utilise Bolingbrook’s extensive bus network. You can also opt to hire a chauffeured vehicle for a more personalised experience. Alternatively, why not go all out and book a stay at one of the many high-end hotels in town?

Forest Preserve District

The Forest Preserve District is one of the largest nature preserve districts in the country, a place where people can escape into a world teeming with wildlife and rich with outdoor recreation and environmental education opportunities. It receives an estimated 62 million visits each year, providing a respite from the urban bustle.

You can explore these pristine forests and prairies in a variety of ways, from hiking to mountain biking to fishing. You can also take a stroll along a scenic overlook that offers an incredible view of the surrounding area and the Chicago skyline far off to the east.

You can also fly nonpowered model gliders and sailplanes on the scenic overlook, when open. You’ll need a valid Forest Preserve District permit to use the site.
