things to do in eastham ma

Eastham ma is an enchanting town that has a lot to offer visitors. It's right on Cape Cod Bay and the Cape Cod National Seashore, which means there are many ponds, trails, marshes, historic landmarks, and more.

One of the best ways to see and experience the beauty of Eastham is by going on a bike ride along the paved Cape Cod Rail Trail. Its two lanes give you a chance to enjoy the sights of forests, lakes, salt marshes, calm kettle ponds, and more!

Take a Tour of the Salt Pond Visitor Center

Located in Eastham, the Salt Pond Visitor Center is Cape Cod National Seashore’s year-round visitor orientation facility. It features a theater, America’s National Parks store and museum.

The museum emphasizes natural and cultural themes that reflect the region’s unique geography and environment. Its exhibits explore the Wampanoag people, European settlement culture, fishing and whaling, life-saving, lighthouses, communication technology, and the age of tourism.

The outdoor information stations are staffed throughout the summer (May 1-October 31 at Province Lands) and the winter, and the America’s National Parks store offers books, maps, field guides, apparel and other seashore-related items. The visitor center grounds offer dramatic views of seashore landscapes and waterscapes.

Go for a Bike Ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail

The Cape Cod Rail Trail is a great way to get off the highway and see some of the Cape's best sights. This paved trail travels through six towns on the Cape—Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham and Wellfleet—and passes by beaches, forests, cranberry bogs, and villages.

The CCRT runs from Dennis to LeCount Hollow in Wellfleet and is one of three designated bike trails that allow cyclists to enter Cape Cod National Seashore. Bikers can stop at several outstanding beaches, including Coast Guard Beach, Nauset Light, and Marconi Beach, for a quick dip.

Visit Wiley Park Beach or Great Pond Beach

The Eastham Bayside offers a variety of great beaches that feature calm, warmer waters, and some wonderful sunsets. The ocean side of town is home to two pristine Cape Cod National Seashore beaches, Nauset Light Beach and Coast Guard Beach.

These stretches of sand are frequently featured on top lists of the world's best beaches. They're also excellent spots for sunbathers and surfers, with ample parking on the beach itself or by shuttle bus.

Aside from these popular beaches, there are a few other attractions and activities to consider while staying in Eastham. If you're looking for some history, check out the 1868 Captain Penniman House and Indian Rock, both located right in town.

Go for a Kayak Tour at Nauset Marsh

A kayak trip on Nauset Marsh can be a great way to see the marsh and the area's many beaches. Kayaking trips are available through Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures.

The Nauset Estuary is one of the most important tidal marshes on the east coast, located at the border between the Atlantic and Gulf Stream currents. The estuary is an important water resource for residents, and for the wildlife of the region.

The marsh is home to a variety of species, including the piping plover, which nests here in the spring and summer. There is also a large tern colony here that is federally protected.

Visit Eastham Windmill

Eastham Windmill is a must-stop if you're heading to Cape Cod on a road trip. Located off highway 6 in a small park, the historic structure is a fun place to stop and take pictures.

The museum here is part of the National Register of Historic Places and is a great spot for people who want to learn about the area's history. It's also a good place for kids to spend some time.

The Eastham Windmill is a popular destination during the annual "Windmill Weekend" celebration that takes place in September. This three-day event is filled with music, food and crafts booths, a cookout, a pancake breakfast, and more.
