Whether you're visiting the city for the first time or you're a local, there are plenty of fun things to do in Kokomo.

There are a lot of museums in Kokomo, including the Kokomo Opalescent Glass, which is America's oldest art glass factory. It was founded during the natural gas boom in the 1880s.

Kokomo Opalescent Glass

America's oldest art glass company continues to produce the highest quality of hand-ladled and rolled glass in its original location since 1888. Tour the 2,500 degree furnace and watch artisans create beautiful blown glass creations in the KOG Hot Glass Studio.

You can still see the time-honored methods and recipes used to make Kokomo Opalescent Glass, a stained glass favorite of Louis Comfort Tiffany that is famous all over the world for its clarity, strength and workability. The factory is open to the public on select days.

In the gift shop, you'll find vases, paperweights, ornaments and other magnificently crafted pieces made from Kokomo Opalescent Glass. You can also take a guided factory tour of the process to learn more about this fascinating craft.

The tour starts in the gift shop with a brief explanation about safety and then moves to the foundry where you can spend up to an hour watching molten glass being mixed, carried, poured, extruded and stored for gradual cooling. It's an incredibly interesting experience that's well worth the $6 admission fee.
