For more than 20 years, Wellcare has been a leading provider of Medicare Advantage plans. The company, owned by Centene Corporation, offers a wide range of HMO and PPO plan options with premiums as low as $0. In addition to Medicare Advantage plans, Wellcare also provides dual-eligible special needs plans (D-SNP) in many states, offering coverage that is combined with both Medicaid and Medicare benefits. Wellcare’s Medicare Advantage plans typically feature rich benefits, such as dental and vision care, transportation services and telehealth visits.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Services arranges for transportation to nonemergency health care appointments for WellCare Members who have no other transportation options. These trips include rides to doctors, hospitals, health care facilities and pharmacies. This service is free to the Member. If the Member requires an attendant, the cost of the attendant’s trip is covered as well.

The company provides the service in the following states: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, New York, and Texas. In all of these states, the company has contracts with transportation providers that offer curb-to-curb transport in private buses, vans and sedans. Some providers have wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

In addition to arranging for the transportation, Wellcare is responsible for making sure that its members receive their mailed prescriptions in a timely manner. The company also monitors the quality of its transportation services and reviews complaints and grievances. The company is regulated by federal and state agencies to ensure that the best possible service is provided.
