Use this resource to help your students learn about figurative language. It helps them rewrite bland sentences, making them interesting through smilies, metaphors, personification, and hyperbole.
A smiley is a symbol that is used in telecommunications and text-based communications to convey a positive emotional response. It is often combined with parenthesis to augment its meaning. It is also used as an emoji in computer applications.
In Denmark, smilies have been attached to inspection reports of retail food enterprises (supermarkets, groceries, bakeries, butchers, greengrocers, kiosks and restaurants) since 2001. Enterprises with no remarks during the last four inspections will receive a “smiley” for that report. These reports must be posted at the entrance to these establishments and made available on their websites.
