With the coronavirus pandemic forcing some offices to close and many employees to work from home, Abbey Donnell wants to be sure that new moms who return to the office won’t have to deal with a lack of private, dedicated space. The founder and CEO of Houston-based Work & Mother offers lactation services that give breastfeeding employees a place to express their milk in privacy. Her company will soon open its first location in the Austin area, at Cypress Real Estate Advisors’ Eastlake at Tillery office project under construction at 3212 E. Cesar Chavez St. in East Austin.

With a mix of older single-family homes, townhomes, condo buildings and floating houses, Seattle’s up-and-coming Eastlake neighborhood has its fair share of housing options — but residents say they wish there were a bigger grocery store nearby. That may change this fall, when a 137-unit multifamily development is set to break ground on a former school property at 2947 East Lake Ave. E., the city’s Planning and Land Use Department said.

In other retail news, the Kroger Marketplace that’s under construction at Interstate 10 and Eastlake Boulevard has been given a green light to move forward. The new store will be one of eight new shopping centers River Oaks is building this year and next, including the massive Eastlake center at Zaragoza Road and Rich Beem Boulevard, which the developer has labeled a “smart-growth” design that’ll feature high-end restaurants with outdoor patios and parking in the back of the center.
