The first season of Stranger Things became an instant hit for Netflix, with its combination of supernatural elements and '80s nostalgia. The series has garnered a wide fan base thanks to its compelling story, strong ensemble cast of teenagers/pre-teens, and cool cars. From Jim Hopper's K5 Chevrolet Blazer to Agyle the stoned sidekick, many of the show's cars are (almost) period perfect.
One of the most distinctive cars in Stranger Things is the blue Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 that Billy Hargrove drives. The filmmakers chose to depict this second-generation Camaro as a fast and powerful muscle car that suits the mulleted bully's intense and brooding character. However, fans have struggled to pinpoint the exact year and trim of this Camaro. This may be due to the fact that the film crew used multiple Camaros during production.
Another cool vehicle is Joyce Byers's aging Ford Pinto, which was well-suited to her role as a struggling single mother of two. Joyce's frugally economical and dependable Pinto also makes sense given the notorious history of Ford's exploding gas tanks and state-wide recall in 1978.
During the second season, we got to see more of the main characters' lives outside of school. In particular, we saw Billy's new job at the steel works and his stepsister Maxine Mayfield driving her car to meet her boyfriend Lucas. Eventually, the Mind Flayer took control of Billy's body, and his Camaro crashed in front of Brimborn Steel. This wreckage was later spotted by Eleven when she entered Billy's mind in the void.
