Over the course of seven seasons, The Mentalist star Patrick Jane drives a number of vehicles. Each of these cars reflects some aspect of the quick-witted crime-solver’s personality. In the latest episode, a 1972 Citroen DS 21 Pallas appears as his primary ride. This French automobile company is known for its innovative and human-centered designs. Just like Jane, the brand closely observes people’s behavior and uses that insight to intentionally craft its vehicles.
The episode opens with Wiley and Lisbon giving each other a hug and a good-bye gift. Jane oh so innocently snarks at her for the public display of affection, which he quickly backtracks on when she reminds him she’s leaving tomorrow.
Later, Cho and Abbott find Jane seated behind the wheel of a yellow Lamborghini in an open parking lot. He puts his hand on Mashburn’s shoulder and says he can feel her reactions, which allows him to navigate the parking lot at top speed without looking over his shoulder. She’s alternately terrified and exhilarated as she drives.
After the team investigates a suspicious death at a high-end luxury car dealership, they discover the body of Liselle Douglas in the trunk of her Bentley. The coroner identifies the body as a 28-year-old woman with signs of blunt force trauma. After the case is resolved, Lisbon sits Van Pelt and Rigsby down to tell them they need to report their relationship to Employee Services or one of them will be forced to transfer.
