The Jerry Springer Show is famous for salacious topics, on-screen fights, and emotionally-involved audiences. But, the show also made headlines in 2000 when it was linked to murder. Ralf and Eleanor Campbell appeared on the show to settle a domestic dispute with their estranged wife, Nancy, who filed a restraining order against them. The couple agreed to a “secret crush” segment in the hopes of embarrassing Nancy and forcing her out of their Sarasota home.
In the end, Ralf shot and killed Nancy and violated a restraining order in the process. Nancy’s son subsequently sued the show claiming it contributed to his mother’s death, but the lawsuit was later settled out of court.
