What Is a Framer in Construction?

February 3, 2024

Whether it’s a new house, office building or giant shopping center, constructing the structure requires a solid foundation that’s built by skilled trade professionals. One of those construction workers is a framer, who, as the name suggests, creates the skeleton or framework for the building project.

Framers read blueprints to assemble the framework structures that are essential for the construction of houses and other facilities. They are responsible for assembling the team, devising work plans, and finding the appropriate materials needed to accomplish their tasks. They must also have the ability to operate various power tools and equipment, and be able to climb up high places.

Structural Integrity and Safety

Framers ensure that the construction they are involved in complies with all applicable building codes and regulations. Their attention to detail and strong commitment to safety help establish a building that’s both safe for its occupants and sturdy enough to last for decades. In addition, they frequently collaborate with other construction professionals to address any issues that may arise throughout the framing process. They often use a combination of wood, steel, and concrete to build the necessary structures. This requires them to have extensive knowledge about the structural requirements of each material. This helps them select the right materials, understand the dimensions in blueprints, and deliver quality results.
