One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines, SM Mall of Asia is located at the southern tip of Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City, aptly nicknamed “Bay City”. The mall has been listed among the largest in the world. It houses a number of retail and dining outlets as well as a large aquarium, an IMAX theater, and an ice skating rink. The mall is owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and SM Investments Corporation.
The mall is divided into four main areas: the main mall complex, E-com Center, Entertainment Mall, and a concert ground. The main mall consists of four buildings that are connected by walkways and pathways. The first building houses a large food hall, the SM Store, and a hypermarket. The second building houses more shopping and dining options including the MOA Arena, and the third focuses on lifestyle products such as home furniture and electronics.
In addition to retail, the mall also has office space. The Dell International Services was located in a 13,470 m2 (145,000 sq ft) area at the second floor of the North Parking Building until it was relocated to the SM Mall of Asia Annex Building. Teleperformance occupied the same location until 2019.
The SM Mall of Asia complex includes a three-kilometer seawall designed to stand against liquefaction and a meter-high inverted wave return to defend against high waves. These disaster resiliency features were put to test when Typhoon Pedring hit the Philippines in 2011, protecting the mall from destructive waves and flooding that submerged many other nearby establishments.
