When a soap opera such as Days Of Our Lives airs, viewers are glued to their TV sets for hours on end. They watch the dramatic decisions made by the characters as they struggle to survive long days, emotional turmoil, love, loss, life and death.
The show is produced by Corday Productions and Sony Pictures Television under the direction of Ted Corday and Betty Corday, and was created by husband-and-wife team Ted and Betty Corday. The series focuses on the lives of the Horton and Brady families in a town called Salem, where everything from surprise courtships and love triangles to custody wars, mistaken identities, murders, medical emergencies, mental illness, kidnappings, and amnesia take place.
In 1965, the series began airing on NBC; the show was one of the most successful and influential soap operas of all time. It won numerous Daytime Emmy Awards and was a staple of the network’s lineup for over 50 years.
During its early years, the series competed against another medical drama, ER, and was eventually shuffled into new timeslots. However, its fans remained loyal and the series was still a success.
Despite its ratings slumps, Days Of Our Lives has continued to be broadcast on a regular basis until its cancellation in 2022. Its legacy will remain in the hearts of many people, and it’s a testament to the talent of the cast and crew that it continues to run. In 2015, the show won Best Drama Series at the Daytime Emmys.
