If you're looking for a college in Georgia, chances are, you'll end up with the University of Georgia. It's one of the state's top public universities and it has a large student population.

It's the first choice of students, especially those who have HOPE Scholarships and are from a minority group. It's also the largest and most comprehensive center of higher education in southeastern Georgia.

The Campus

UGA's main campus is located in Athens, Georgia. It's a historic, ivy-covered campus with a long tradition of academic excellence and community involvement. The campus has many landmarks including the Arch, which was built in the 1880s and served as a stage for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Founders Week

Every year, on January 27, the university commemorates the date it became the first public university in America with a Founders Day Lecture sponsored by the Emeriti Scholars. The lecture is attended by alumni, faculty members and other guests.

The University of Georgia has seven colleges and twenty degree programs that have been accredited by national and international agencies. The university offers a wide variety of majors in the liberal arts, business administration, education, health and human services, science, technology, and engineering.

Bioenergy Systems Research Institute

The biomedical sciences department at UGA is a leader in research that addresses environmental concerns and the use of renewable energy. The Bioenergy Systems Research Institute is a $40 million LEED certified building with 72 solar panels that generate enough electricity to power the entire university.
