Where to Stay in Arequipa

June 15, 2023

A hidden gem nestled in the middle of Peru’s volcanic Andes, Arequipa is home to an incredible historic city centre and some of South America’s most stunning natural sights. Whether you want to explore the Colca and Cotahuasi canyons or just admire the beautiful architecture, there is a hotel for every budget in this eclectic city!

In the heart of Arequipa’s White City (the name for its historic center), Acolpacha Tambo Boutique is a quaint little hotel that is cheap and elegant at once. Renovated from an 18th century colonial mansion, the rooms have retained their ashlar masonry and balconies while modernising the furniture, beds and bathrooms.

The cosy rooms have wooden floors, and some are even adorned with rustic private balconies overlooking the monastery! The hotel’s restaurant serves meals from the Andes, including almuerzos and traditional dishes. It also boasts a bar and a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of the city.

One of the best things about this place is its location, a stone’s throw away from the cathedral and Plaza de Armas. The hotel is also a great base for exploring the surrounding volcanoes and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

This is a popular hostel amongst backpackers, thanks to its well-organised tour agency and super comfortable beds. The staff here are also very friendly and will be happy to help you plan your trip. They can also help you arrange tours and transportation to the other parts of Peru.
